I first became a fan of Pink Floyd in 1979 when a friend was playing the album 'Wish You Were Here', and specifically the song 'Welcome to the Machine'.
Then in 1980 while recouperating from a gun accident, I came upon 'The Wall'.
I have been a huge fan ever since.  I remember seeing the movie version of 'The Wall' as soon as it came to theaters.  And going with friends to midnight viewings of it in college.
I was lucky enough to have seen Pink Floyd Live once, that was on
May 20, 1988 at Camp Randall Stadium on the University of Wisconsin in  Madison, WI.
That was a show I will always remember.  The huge stage (5 stories tall), the "Quadrophonic" sound, the light show, video screen and lasers.
In 2005 I came upon
www.davidgilmour.com and found out about the new album and tour coming in 2006.  I got tickets (they sold out all over the world in minutes, actually there are only 24 total concerts), here in Chicago, 2 nights sold out in 1 minute! (4400 seats in the Rosemont Theatre)
David Gilmour is the best guitar player in the world in my opinion.  This show was totally incredible.  The first half was all the songs from his latest album 'On An Island'.
And the second half was pure Pink Floyd!  The song 'Echoes' was 23 minutes long and is the definition of Rock & Roll. The lights, THE guitar!, the smoke, not to mention the above pictured laser show.  It was incredible.
Keep an eye out for the DVD of this tour!
(released Sept 18, 2007)
Until then may I recommend "David Gilmour in Concert - The Meltdown Concert" DVD.
It is the best live music video I have ever seen!  And the new DVD by Pink Floyd "Pulse" released in 2006.

If Pink Floyd should ever get back together again DO NOT MISS IT!
If David Gilmour tours again I highly recommend seeing him!
